Fire Department

The Germantown Fire Department is a professional, full-service agency providing excellent fire and emergency medical services for the citizens of Germantown. In addition to service to our community, the Germantown Fire Department is also very actively involved with preparedness activities at the local, county, regional, state and federal levels. These activities provide service to our community in areas such as mutual aid, incident management, technical rescue, emergency management and urban search and rescue.

Primary Services
• Fire suppression
• Emergency medical advanced life support (Paramedic) first responder (transport is provided by private ambulance service through Shelby County contract)
• Hazardous materials and CBRNE/WMD response
• Fire inspection program for all commercial buildings annually
• Fire pre-plan and construction inspection program
• Fire code with residential sprinkler ordinance
• Public fire education including the Learning About Fire Safety (LAFS) Clown troupe that provides fire safety programs regionally.
• Fire investigations
• Technical rescue, including rope, trench, confined space, water and structural collapse, several members are active participants and leaders for Tennessee Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue Team.
• Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training for civilians
• Emergency management (Fire Chief serves as EMA Director)
• Homeland security
• EMS bike/gator patrol for special events

Response Time
The department responds to an average of 2,700 calls per year. Of those calls 60% are emergency medical in nature. The average response time for the Germantown Fire Department is five minutes.

News
Three City of Germantown first responders have completed a course to better serve residents during an emergency.
Applications are now being accepted for a Citizen’s Police Academy October 7 through November 18.
