Strengthening the community and creating quality recreation and leisure experiences is the mission of the award-winning Germantown Parks and Recreation department.
Six divisions--administration, building maintenance, Germantown Centre, parks, recreation and vehicle maintenance--enable the department the unique ability of being able to accomplish this mission in a variety of ways. Active involvement of staff and commission members in the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association and the National Recreation & Parks Association also enables the department to better serve the public.

In 1996, the Germantown Parks and Recreation department became accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Parks & Recreation Agencies. This made the department the 12th department in the nation and the only department in Tennessee to earn this accreditation. In May 2001, the department was re-accredited.
