City Property Taxes
Germantown's property tax generates about half of the revenues necessary for funding City services. Residential property is assessed at 25% of the appraised value; business property is assessed at 40%.
Valuations are done by the Shelby County Assessor's Office. The County Trustee's Office forwards the certified tax roll information to the City of Germantown each fall.
City of Germantown rate: $1.54 per $100 assessed value.
The City issues tax statements to property owners or holders of title each November. Taxes are due and payable no later than the last day of the following February. State-mandated penalties are imposed if municipal and county property taxes are not paid on time; the City is prohibited by state law from giving relief on penalties.
- Property owners who don't receive a tax statement in December, should check with the City to make certain the billing information and address is correct.
- If taxes are escrowed, the mortgage holder/lending institution receives the tax statement.
