Wycliffe Gordon at GPAC

“If Wycliffe and his ultra-fine band roll into your town, drop everything and drive down to see them.” – JazzTimes

Musical ambassador and interpreter of America’s music, Wycliffe Gordon tours the world performing hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz, receiving great acclaim from audiences and critics alike. His unmatched modern mastery of the plunger mute, his exceptional technique, and his signature sound have solidified for Gordon a place in musical history as one of the top trombonists of his generation.

Gordon is a prolific recording artist and is extremely popular for his unmatched sound, plunger technique, and unique vocals. Regularly touring as a soloist as well as leading his own band, Gordon headlines legendary jazz venues, festivals, and performing arts centers throughout the world. Gordon is a former veteran member of the Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. His musical expertise is sought out by artists across the globe and has been captured on numerous projects and performances with other artists including Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, Paul Simon, Natalie Merchant, Rene Marie, Dianne Reeves, Anat Cohen, and Ricky Skaggs.

In 2022, the Jazz Journalists Association named him “Trombonist of the Year” for the record-breaking 15th time, and he’s topped the Downbeat Critics Poll for “Best Trombone” for an unprecedented six times. Recent awards include the coveted Louie Award presented by the Louis Armstrong Museum, the International Trombone Association Award, and the Satchmo Award.

One of America’s most persuasive and committed music educators, Gordon is highly sought after as a clinician and guest speaker. He currently serves as Director of Jazz Studies at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia.
