Post Date:01/10/2019 4:30 PM
The Germantown Police Department will conduct a Citizen's Police Academy from April 2 through April 25. The Academy will meet at the Germantown Police Department in the police training room located inside City Hall on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Participants will receive classroom and hands-on training on many aspects of the police department and the criminal justice system. Instructors will be law enforcement officers and criminal justice professionals from the area. Topics will include the history of law enforcement, patrol tactics, investigations, use of force, traffic enforcement, police communications and other areas. Participants will develop a greater understanding of the role of a law enforcement officer and the day-to-day operations of the Germantown Police Department. Graduation will take place Thursday, April 25.

Graduates often assist police with special events in the City including the Annual Business and Senior Expo, Family Fourth activities, Germantown Charity Horse Show and Germantown Festival.

The Citizen's Police Academy is limited to 30 participants. Germantown residents are given priority acceptance; however, anyone may apply. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, must submit an application and successfully pass a background check. Applications may be picked up at the front desk of the Germantown Police Department, 1930 S. Germantown Road, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Applications are also available online at Germantown-TN.gov/CPA. Deadline for applications is Friday, March 22. For more information, contact Lieutenant Ed McGee at 757-7349 or EMcgee@Germantown-TN.gov.
