Post Date:03/14/2026 3:30 PMThe City of Germantown will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program on Monday, March 16. Rogers Hydrant Service will conduct the work, starting on the east side of the City and gradually moving west through neighborhoods.
Flushing will take place Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. as crews work their way through Germantown’s water system.
This routine maintenance is an important part of keeping Germantown’s water infrastructure operating safely and efficiently. Each year, the flushing program allows Public Works and Fire Department staff to inspect and evaluate nearly 2,100 public fire hydrants across the City. The process also helps ensure that Germantown continues to meet standards set by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and the Insurance Services Office (ISO).
Residents in areas where flushing is taking place may notice temporary water discoloration or minor fluctuations in water pressure. If this occurs, simply run a cold water tap for a few minutes until the water clears. These effects are normal and typically resolve quickly as crews move on to the next section of the system.
The annual hydrant flushing program helps ensure that Germantown’s fire hydrants remain ready for emergency use while also maintaining the quality and reliability of the City’s water service.
