Germantown voters have decided against the proposed change to make the Mayor a full-time position. Based on the results from Tuesday’s referendum, the City Charter will stay as it is.
The ballot asked residents if the Mayor should be required to devote full-time attention to the office starting in 2027. A majority of voters cast their ballots "against" the amendment.
The unofficial vote counts are:
-
Against: 5,097 (76.5%)
-
For: 1,570 (23.5%)
What this means for Germantown:
-
No Change to the Charter: The Mayor’s role remains a part-time commitment under the current Charter rules.
-
Compensation: The Mayor’s salary will stay at the current rate of $42,000 annually.
-
Current Term: There is no impact on the current Mayor’s term, which runs through the end of 2026.
We appreciate everyone who took the time to vote during early voting and on Election Day.
