GPD Utilizes Store Credit to Upgrade Patrol Rifles

Post Date:07/06/2026 9:00 AM

The Germantown Police Department (GPD) is getting 30 new patrol rifles at zero cost to local taxpayers.

During its June 22 meeting, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA) approved using $45,680.25 in existing store credit with GT Distributors to buy the new equipment. Because the department built up this credit over time by trading in old, used equipment, the purchase requires no new investment from the City's budget. Transitioning those credits allows the department to equip all sworn officers with modern patrol rifles without placing a capital burden on the taxpayers.

Why the Upgrade Matters

  • Safety and Precision: The new rifles give officers the necessary range and accuracy needed during high-risk incidents or active threat situations.

  • Standardization: Equipping all officers with the exact same model makes firearms training more efficient, simplifies routine maintenance and allows parts to be easily swapped in the field.

  • Ready for Duty: The purchase is a complete package that includes the firearms, optics, mounts and slings so they can be put into service immediately.

This upgrade ensures that the GPD remains fully equipped to protect our neighborhoods. By keeping frontline tools modern and standardized, the City continues to invest heavily in the safety, readiness and security of our community.
