The Power of Parks: Germantown Celebrates Parks and Recreation Month
Post Date:07/07/2026 4:22 PMThe City of Germantown is celebrating Parks and Recreation Month throughout July by recognizing the people, places and programs that help make the community healthier, more connected and more vibrant.
During its July 13 meeting, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will officially proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month in Germantown, joining communities nationwide in recognizing the importance of parks and recreation.
Since 1985, the National Recreation and Park Association has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month to highlight the positive impact parks and recreation professionals have on communities across the country.
This year’s national theme, “The Power Of…”, celebrates the many ways parks and recreation enrich everyday life. Throughout July, the Germantown Parks and Recreation Department will spotlight the dedicated staff and divisions that create meaningful experiences for residents while exploring themes including The Power of Connection, The Power of Play, The Power of Community, The Power of Nature, The Power of Belonging and The Power of Well-Being.
From neighborhood parks and greenways to athletic fields, playgrounds and recreation programs, Germantown’s parks provide opportunities for residents of all ages to stay active, spend time outdoors and build lasting connections with family, friends and neighbors. Parks also support environmental stewardship, strengthen the local economy and enhance the overall quality of life that makes Germantown a great place to live.
“Our parks and recreation system creates opportunities for everyone to connect, play and enjoy the outdoors,” said Parks and Recreation Director Natalie Ruffin. “Whether you’re learning Mahjong at the Pickering Center, visiting the goats at the Farm Park, discovering colorful murals along the Greenway or cheering on a child at a ballfield, these experiences help create the strong sense of community that makes Germantown special.”
