Drivers should expect temporary lane shifts and possible traffic delays beginning Wednesday, July 29, as construction begins on the Poplar Avenue Culvert Replacement Phase V project near Featherleigh Lane.
The project is the final phase of the City’s long-term effort to replace aging stormwater culverts beneath Poplar Avenue. An engineering assessment identified many culverts that had reached the end of their service life or were in need of replacement. Since then, the City has systematically replaced those crossings to improve drainage infrastructure and help ensure the long-term reliability of one of Germantown’s busiest corridors.
This phase will replace a deteriorated culvert at Featherleigh Lane and another near Bedford Lane. Construction is expected to continue through mid-August and will occur in phases to maintain traffic flow while allowing crews to safely complete the work.
Traffic Impacts:
July 29 through August 2
-
Work will move into the center of Poplar Avenue.
-
Eastbound traffic will maintain two open lanes.
-
Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane as vehicles are safely routed around the work zone.
August 3 through 12
August 13 through 14
-
Crews will complete traffic striping, sidewalk replacement, inlet repairs and sodding.
-
Only shoulder closures are expected.
-
All standard travel lanes will be fully open.
What Drivers Should Know
Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use extra caution when traveling through the work zone and consider alternate routes to avoid minor delays.
The City appreciates the community’s patience as these infrastructure improvements are completed.
