City of Germantown
Home MenuGovernment
Established in 1841, Germantown is a community driven by a commitment to excellence. The City operates under a mayor-council form of government, guided by a private act charter from the State of Tennessee.
At the heart of our governance is the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA), consisting of the mayor and five aldermen, all elected at-large. The BMA, acting as the legislative body, sets policies for efficient service delivery. The mayor serves as the chief executive, overseeing a professional city administrator responsible for day-to-day city operations. All department directors report directly to administration, ensuring a streamlined and efficient structure.
Germantown values community involvement and collaboration. With 26 boards and commissions staffed by nearly 200 dedicated volunteer residents, the BMA receives valuable input and advice. Aldermen and staff liaisons actively engage in commission meetings, ensuring alignment with the strategies set forth in the Germantown Forward strategic plan. This collaborative approach connects our staff with innovations derived from resident experts.
Join us in Germantown, where our rich history meets a vibrant present, and our commitment to excellence shapes a promising future. We take pride in our community, and together, we're moving Germantown Forward!
