Purpose
The education commission is established for the following purposes:
(a) To deal with educational issues of general community interest.
(b) To study ways to enhance the quality of education and make recommendations for improvements.
(c) Encourage education, which responds to the needs of the community.

Meetings
Second Tuesday of each month (August through May) at 5:30 p.m. in the Lawton Conference Room at Germantown City Hall.

Members
The commission consists of 12 members appointed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and includes Chairman Heather Fisher, Gail Braddock, Kyle Eaton, Stephen Fisher, Lindsay Freeman, Chad Hammontree, Stacey Spinosa Johnson, Melissa Kandel, Manjit Kaur, Ellen Moak, Beth Robbins, Patricia Toarmina, GMSD Liaison, Staff Liaison Jessica Comas and Alderman Sherrie Hicks.

Awarding Outstanding Students and Teachers
Nominate a high school senior    Nominate a Germantown teacher
Each month during the school year, the Commission honors one teacher and one student from community nominations. Youth Excellence Award winners must be high school seniors living in Germantown and may attend any school. Teacher of the Month recipients must work at a public or private school within Germantown. Awards are presented at Board of Mayor and Aldermen meetings, with sponsors invited to take part.
