Permit Application

Installing a new fence or altering an existing one on your Germantown property requires a permit to ensure compliance with city guidelines regarding height, materials, and placement.

Do I Need a Permit?

A permit is required for:

  • New fence installations
  • Adding fence sections
  • Changing the location of a fence
  • Changing the type or materials of a fence

Permit Details:

  • Issuing Office: Economic and Community Development, 1920 S. Germantown Road
  • Permit Fee: $50 (subject to change)
  • Late Fee: Permit fees are doubled if work begins before a permit is issued.

Key Fence Regulations:

  • Height Restrictions: There are restrictions on fence height, setbacks from property lines, fencing materials and drainage.
  • Drainage: Ensure your fence installation does not impede natural drainage patterns.
  • Appearance: The smooth side of the fence must face the street when the fence runs parallel to it.
  • Maintenance: All fences must be maintained in good repair and sound structural condition.
