Installing a new fence or altering an existing one on your Germantown property requires a permit to ensure compliance with city guidelines regarding height, materials, and placement.
Do I Need a Permit?
A permit is required for:
- New fence installations
- Adding fence sections
- Changing the location of a fence
- Changing the type or materials of a fence
Permit Details:
- Issuing Office: Economic and Community Development, 1920 S. Germantown Road
- Permit Fee: $50 (subject to change)
- Late Fee: Permit fees are doubled if work begins before a permit is issued.
Key Fence Regulations:
- Height Restrictions: There are restrictions on fence height, setbacks from property lines, fencing materials and drainage.
- Drainage: Ensure your fence installation does not impede natural drainage patterns.
- Appearance: The smooth side of the fence must face the street when the fence runs parallel to it.
- Maintenance: All fences must be maintained in good repair and sound structural condition.
