Installing a swimming pool in Germantown requires a permit to ensure safety and compliance with city ordinances.

Important Safety and Compliance Requirements:

  • Flood Fringe: Special installation requirements apply to properties located in the flood fringe.

  • Fencing: A fence at least 4 feet high is mandatory around the property or the pool area.
    • Spacing between vertical and horizontal pieces cannot exceed 4 inches.
    • Horizontal components should be on the inside of the fence to prevent climbing.
    • Self-latching gate closures must be at least 4 feet above the ground.
    • An illustration may be required for fences with unusual designs.
  • Maintenance: Fences and gates must be maintained in good repair at all times to prevent unauthorized access. Open gates or missing fence sections are code violations.
  • Water Quality: Pool water must be properly treated with chemicals to prevent it from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes or other health hazards.
  • Drainage: Pool water containing chemicals must not be drained onto ground surfaces or into the City storm drainage system. It must be drained into the sanitary sewer system.
  • Nuisance: The pool must not create a nuisance for neighbors or the surrounding neighborhood.
