Property Tax Payments and Account Information
Germantown’s property tax generates about half of the revenues necessary for funding City services. Residential property is assessed at 25% of the appraised value, commercial property at 40% and personal property at 30%.
Valuations are completed by the Shelby County Assessor’s Office. The County Assessor's Office supplies certified tax roll information to the City of Germantown each October.
City of Germantown tax rate is $1.79 per $100 assessed value.
Notification and Deadlines
- The City issues tax statements to property owners or holders of title each November. Taxes are due and payable on the first day of December of the current calendar year. State mandated penalties are imposed if property taxes are not paid by the last day of February of the subsequent calendar year. The City is prohibited from providing relief on penalties.
- Property owners who do not receive a tax statement by early December, should email Tax@Germantown-TN.gov or call (901) 757-7218 to confirm mailing information.
- If taxes are escrowed, the property owner should forward the tax statement to the mortgage holder or lending institution.
Mailing Payments
Please make checks or money orders payable to 'City of Germantown.' Mailed payments must be postmarked on or before the last day in February to avoid penalties and interest. Payments made utilizing your bank's online bill pay service are posted as of the date received. Mail payment, along with the bottom portion of the tax statement to:
